The event is a legacy event and information on it as follows

Joe Iannarelli has justcelebrated his 90th birthday at an event hosted by his granddaughters on 25 January in the Crow’s Next at Esquimalt Sports Centre Curling Rink. His contribution to the life of the community in Esquimalt is legend and a team of colleagues are putting together a major series of events later this year as part of the Esquimalt Centennial activities.

This is a special year for Esquimalt and a special year for the recognition of the contributions that Joe Iannarelli, Jimmy Bryant, the members of the Sports Centre Commission you see pictured above. These activities will honour the success of the Sports Centre, hockey, lacrosse, skating, summer schools, speed skating, curling and much more. One item of success is the hundreds of young boys who went from the Esquimalt Summer Hockey School to earn their way into the NHL. The legacy of Joe and his colleagues in Esquimalt will be featured at events to occur at the Sports Centre on August 18, 2012 as part of the Centennial Activities.

We have booked the following for these activities:

Event will be co-ordinated by Dr Dan Buie and Maureen Milgram Forrest assisted by members of the Iannarelli Committee

Exhibition Hockey Game and Other High Jinks

Having same day as the Roast so that special guests only need to stay over one day/night
Have links to Naden and UVic (confirmed), Junior Cougars and possibly minor hockey through Rockheights School.
Number of games to be confirmed
Possible Corinne Eckart Coell to sing the anthem
Malcolm Ashford has offered to referee one of the games
Will use the event to announce recognition of Joe, Jimmy Bryant, Terry A Prentice, Vern Fillman, Ken Hill, Ed Da Costa, Ivor Solly, Harold Moist and all the people who made the Sports Centre and sports in Esquimalt memorable Kudos to Jean Iannarelli and Joey Jr.
